The Sturgeon Point Association’s AGM will be held on Sunday, Sept. 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the Union Church. The meeting will start with a short presentation about the black bears in our community. A representative of the MNR will be on hand to make the presentation, and the discussion will include safety and accident prevention. The AGM will then proceed, following the normal agenda. This will include the nomination of new board members and discussions about recent issues facing the community and plans for the coming year.

The last Church service of the summer will be held this Sunday (August 22nd), but there will be a special event the following Sunday. Come and enjoy a Sunday of Music on August 29th at the Church. This event will showcase local musical talent and is sure to be fine morning of music. There will be no service that morning, and everyone is welcome as usual. For those who don’t attend the regular Church services during the summer, this event is a great opportunity to enjoy a very unusual building as well. The Civic Holiday Weekend is upon us. That means we’re right in the middle of summer, but it also means that it is time for the Saturday night Barbecue and Street Dance at the Park and the Annual Sturgeon Point Regatta. The Saturday night Barbecue and Street Dance will be held, well, this Saturday night, (July 31). Things get going at about 6:00 p.m. when the barbecued dinner is served. There’ll be drinks and dessert too. dinner the DJ will get things hopping. Come out and dance with your neighbours.

Monday morning the fun and games start when the 172nd Sturgeon Point Regatta kicks off on the front lawn of Swannanoa at 10:00 a.m. There’ll be all kinds of races for young and old, there will be a candy toss (for young, not old) and some unique novelty races too. In the afternoon (2:00 p.m.) the action moves to the Public Beach for the swimming and canoe races.  

Everyone is welcome to participate in these events. See you there!

In lieu of the more traditional Gala Dinner, the SLSC will be holding a cocktail party at Swannanoa’s Boathouse and the Sand Bar. There is a suggested donation of $40 per person, with proceeds going towards expansion of the fleet.

on July 10th at 10:00 a.m. Rob Messervy of the Kawartha Region Conservation Authority will make a presentation about the Sturgeon Lake Management Plan that the KRCA is spearheading. The meeting will be held at the Union Church. The meeting will discuss local conservation efforts that are presently underway to protect our lake and local environment. The discussion will include issues relevant to Sturgeon Point, including wells, septic systems, and weeds in the lake.

The Sturgeon Point Association warmly invites all residents of the Village and their guests to join us in our annual Welcome Back Social in celebration of Canada Day and a new summer season!  Please join us at 12:00 noon on Saturday July 3rd, 2010 at the Park in the Woods for a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and neighbours as well as a chance to meet new residents in our village.  Enjoy a hotdog, juice, or pop and a dessert while sharing news with those we haven’t seen in a while and making plans for another wonderful summer at Sturgeon Point.    We look forward to seeing everyone there!
