Sturgeon Point Road Report – Canada Day Weekend

As many of you have no doubt noticed, on Canada Day Lake Road was transformed into a brand new east-west route along our shore. Smooth and black, it will be easier on our vehicle shock absorbers and hotter under bare feet in the summer. The Royel Paving crew worked hard to complete this stage of the work before the weekend. The short strip along Irene between Sixth St. and Lake Road will be paved on Monday. Rain had left it too soft to pave on Thursday. Royel will be back to clean up the edges of the road where the gravel is banked too high, and they will remove the stakes and pylons that mark the edge of the roadway.
We look forward to further road maintenance on our side streets next year.

Canada Day Celebrations this Saturday (July 3rd)!

The Sturgeon Point Association warmly invites all residents of the Village and their guests to join us in our annual Welcome Back Social in celebration of Canada Day and a new summer season! Please join us at 12:00 noon on Saturday July 3rd, 2010 at the Park in the Woods for a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and neighbours as well as a chance to meet new residents in our village. Enjoy a hotdog, juice, or pop and a dessert while sharing news with those we haven’t seen in a while and making plans for another wonderful summer at Sturgeon Point. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Road Report

Road work continues this week after a slow progress last week. The pace has picked up and there is new gravel spread and compacted over most of Lake Road. The lake water irrigation system has been repaired and is now operational. (Kudos to Dave Kennedy for staying on top of that.) Paving is expected to start this week. It is unlikely that the work will be completed for the long weekend, unfortunately. In the mean time, drive carefully!

Road work to begin

The re-surfacing of Lake Road will start on June 17. For those of you wondering if the stakes planted along the side of the road indicate a much wider avenue, not to worry. The new road will keep its original width. It will just be a lot smoother.

The work should be completed in less than two weeks, according to the City. In the meantime, let’s be patient and careful on our roads while the work progresses.

Brian Junkin Wins Ward 7 By-election Race

Brian Junkin has been declared the winner of the by-election held on January 25th. Brian defeated Gail Thomassen and Audry Holden. The race was relatively close, with Brian receiving 731 votes and Thomassen finishing with 663 votes. Holden received 277 votes. Congratulations to Brian. All Candidates meeting held

For those of you who missed it, a debate between the three Ward 7 by-election candidates was held at the Bobcaygeon Legion last Thursday, January 7. Two of our local publications attended and have reported on the event. The articles are relatively short in length and depth, so they don’t provide a great deal of information that might help sway those of you who remain undecided. By-Election News: All Candidates Meeting

7:00 pm	to	9:00 pm

There will be an all-candidates meeting on January 7th at 7:00 p.m. at the Bobcaygeon Legion. This will give everyone a chance to hear the candidates in person. Although now format has been publicly announced yet, one can reasonably assume that there will be plenty of oppostunity to ask the candidates questions.
