Sunday of Music at the Church

The last Church service of the summer will be held this Sunday (August 22nd), but there will be a special event the following Sunday. Come and enjoy a Sunday of Music on August 29th at the Church. This event will showcase local musical talent and is sure to be fine morning of music. There will be no service that morning, and everyone is welcome as usual. For those who don’t attend the regular Church services during the summer, this event is a great opportunity to enjoy a very unusual building as well. Civic Holiday Weekend Events!

The Civic Holiday Weekend is upon us. That means we’re right in the middle of summer, but it also means that it is time for the Saturday night Barbecue and Street Dance at the Park and the Annual Sturgeon Point Regatta. The Saturday night Barbecue and Street Dance will be held, well, this Saturday night, (July 31). Things get going at about 6:00 p.m. when the barbecued dinner is served. There’ll be drinks and dessert too. dinner the DJ will get things hopping. Come out and dance with your neighbours.

Monday morning the fun and games start when the 172nd Sturgeon Point Regatta kicks off on the front lawn of Swannanoa at 10:00 a.m. There’ll be all kinds of races for young and old, there will be a candy toss (for young, not old) and some unique novelty races too. In the afternoon (2:00 p.m.) the action moves to the Public Beach for the swimming and canoe races.

Everyone is welcome to participate in these events. See you there!

Sailing Club Fundraising Cocktail and Beach Party!

In lieu of the more traditional Gala Dinner, the SLSC will be holding a cocktail party at Swannanoa’s Boathouse and the Sand Bar. There is a suggested donation of $40 per person, with proceeds going towards expansion of the fleet.

The Sturgeon Point Association warmly invites all residents of the Village and their guests to join us in our annual Welcome Back Social in celebration of Canada Day and a new summer season! Please join us at 12:00 noon on Saturday July 3rd, 2010 at the Park in the Woods for a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and neighbours as well as a chance to meet new residents in our village. Enjoy a hotdog, juice, or pop and a dessert while sharing news with those we haven’t seen in a while and making plans for another wonderful summer at Sturgeon Point. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Call for beds for sailors

This year out very own Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club (SLSC) has been selected to host the Canadian Laser Masters Championships on July 23 to 25. The club obviously has a tremendous reputation and continues to raise the bar by attracting such high level competitions year after year.

One of the reasons for this success is that each and every sailing competion is a community effort, and every year Sturgeon Point has welcomed the participants of Provincial and National level competitions by hosting them within our small community. This was often done by simply providing a welcoming smile and a part of a yard for young sailors to set up tents.

This year, because the Masters competion involves mature sailors from 35 to 75(!) years of age, we are looking more for beds rather than outdoor space to pitch a tent. No meals will need to be provided – sailors will be fed communally at the sailing club and elsewhere. Sailors will also provide their own bedding.

If you think you can provide a bed or two for some sailors, please contact the SLSC at masters@slsc.ca . They will be thrilled to hear from you. The club asks that you do so before June 15th so that they can assess the number of beds that will be available.

Sturgeon Point Golf Club has a new web site

The Sturgeon Point Golf Club is open and looking forward to a great 2010 season. This year the Club has added a web presence to provide guests and members with easy access to Club news and information, including Club newsletters and league results. For its part, the SPA web site will continue to maintain a small page that provides a short introduction to the Club and a link to the Club’s site. All the best to everyone at the Golf Club!

Local Tennis Camp No More – Daniel Moves On

After a successful run teaching local youngsters and adults the fine game of tennis over the past several summers, the ever-enterprising young Daniel Austin-Appleton has decided to close his summer tennis camp and will be moving onto other endeavours next summer. We’d like to thank Daniel for having provided this opportunity to the community and wish him the all the best with his future projects.

Golf page update

The Golf Course Page has been updated and upgraded. You can now find the latest newsletters and scheduling information on there. You can expect to see a new newsletter every month in season. Check this site for the latest club news.

We’ve also recently introduced a new navigation tool that you’ll notice on the left hand side of this web page. It is visible from any page on this site, and lets you navigate directly to any page. This new widget will facilitate a better structure for the various pages and subpages on the site. Check back soon for more updates.

This is a reminder that tennis camp and lessons will be available again this summer. Appleton Tennis will be serving up another smash at the Appleton Cottage Tennis Court on Sandy Point Road.
