Flood Preparedness Public Forum – March 7 in Fenelon Falls

The public is invited to a free public forum on flood preparedness in Fenelon Falls on Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“This is a great forum for residents and property owners concerned about flooding and how they can be more prepared,” explained Iryna Shulyarenko, hydrologist at Kawartha Conservation. “The forum will include a trade show as well as presentations on flood emergency management, flood preparedness and flood protection.”

The forum is being organized and co-hosted in partnership with Kawartha Conservation and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Formal presentations will take place between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and include talks about the roles and responsibilities of agencies involved in flood emergency management and from industry professionals talking about how to make your home flood resistant and, when necessary, protect it from flood waters.

“There will be some great presenters showing some of the newest and best products and solutions for protecting your home during floods,” explained Ms. Shulyarenko. “Whether you’re concerned about potential flooding issues or you’ve experienced them in the past, this forum will be a really good opportunity to hear from experts and ask questions throughout the day.”

The Flood Preparedness Public Forum will take place at the Fenelon Falls Community Centre at 27 Veterans Way in Fenelon Falls.

“Many areas throughout the Kawartha Lakes, and in particular the Burnt River, experience high water and flooding most years,” said Kawartha Lakes Mayor Andy Letham. “This event is a great opportunity for full time and seasonal residents to learn more about what they can do to both manage and respond to flooding of their homes and property.” “I would encourage all interested residents to attend and get the information they need to help protect themselves and their property in the event of a flood,” Mayor Letham added.
