2018 Municipal Elections

Ontario’s municipal and school board elections take place on Monday, October 22, 2018.

In Kawartha Lakes, the election is simple: 10 Days, 2 Ways

Voting will be held by internet and telephone voting over 10 days from Friday, October 12, 2018 at 9am to Monday, October 22, 2018 at 8pm.

Your municipal government is responsible for providing a variety of services including: roads, child care, local policing, water and sewers, ambulance service, as well as parks and recreation. Additional details are online.

All Candidates’ Meeting

There will be an All Candidates Meeting on Sunday, September 2nd at the Sturgeon Point Church

The meeting will take place following the SPA Annual General Meeting.

Important Note for the Elections

Ward Boundaries are changing. Currently there are 16 wards represented by 16 Councillors plus the Mayor. As per Council decision a change will be made to 8 wards represented by 8 Councillors plus the Mayor, as of December 2, 2018.

New ward boundaries have been drawn to accommodate the change. Sturgeon Point is in Ward 3.

Who can vote in the elections?

Anyone can vote in a municipal election who, on the day of the election, is:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • either a resident of the municipality or a property owner or tenant or the spouse or same sex partner of an owner or tenant in the municipality during a specified time just before the election.

Your name must be on the voters’ list in order for you to cast a ballot.
