The Sturgeon Point community is deeply saddened by the loss of Victor Isbrucker, who passed away on September 13, surrounded by his family.
Victor was a much-loved and valued member of our community. He will be greatly missed.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Kathy, Willem, Benjamin, Asher and Avery, and to Victor’s family and many friends.

Victor Isbrucker Obituary
On September 13, 2026, Victor Isbrucker died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and an enormous amount of love. Born in Montreal January 17, 1959, he was 67.
Victor was a brilliant soul who lived a rich and fulfilling life shared generously with those who knew and loved him. He is missed immeasurably by Kathy, his best friend and partner of 45 years, his children Willem, Benjamin, Asher, and Avery, his mother Jane, and his brothers, Michael, Richard, and Eric.
Known to his many friends, colleagues, and neighbours as outgoing, intelligent, magnanimous, and thoughtful, he was quick with a joke or a helping hand if you ever needed one. He loved listening to and making music; he played guitar and was an excellent drummer.
Victor was an accomplished optical engineer. At work, he leveraged his brilliant and analytical mind, natural curiosity and meticulous attention to detail throughout a successful and fulfilling career. He designed lenses and lasers for applications in all sorts of impressive technologies for the likes of Google, IMAX, NASA, and the Canadian Space Agency, on projects that tickled his fascination with outer space, cool gadgets, and complex engineering. His work on the James Webb Space Telescope is a perfect example. He cared about his colleagues, and many of them became lifelong friends.
Victor was most proud of the family he created with Kathy. He loved seeing his kids thrive and always encouraged them to pursue their interests and passions. They will miss all of the ways he fit into each of their lives and seeking out his sage advice. He shared his love of science with his kids, explaining anything they asked him – Why is the sky blue? What are stars made of? What is a photon? How do airplanes stay aloft? — or discovering the answers alongside them.
Whenever possible, he loved to make things himself, from a potato cannon to guitar pedals, and just last summer built a beautiful red cedar dock that will last for years to come. He loved to sit at the water at the end of the day watching the sun go down over Sturgeon Lake. And in the winter, when the lake froze over, he could be seen walking across and back with his beloved dogs beside him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Victor’s medical team throughout his journey, and particularly Dr. Neera Jeyabalan, for whom he had deep respect, and Natalie Dendura, his primary nurse, who always went above and beyond for him.
A private family celebration of Victor’s life will be planned for the Spring.
