Summer Update

Greetings SPA Members,

Summer is here!  Let the fun begin!

As the kids finish up school and we all gear up for a wonderful season at the Point there are a few things I wanted to share with you today.

First, our upcoming events:

Canada Day BBQ – Sunday, June 30 at 12 pm at the Park In The Woods:

This is a great way to ring in the season and we look forward to having everyone join us in the park to catch up with friends and neighbours old and new!  We will be serving hot dogs, drinks, cake and frozen treats.

As usual, we will have a membership table set up so that you can submit your forms and payment in person.  (Membership form is available at https://www.sturgeonpoint.com/spa-membership/ or you can renew online at https://www.sturgeonpoint.com/membership-registration/ )

We will also be selling Civic Regatta anniversary swag!  (see details below)

Bike swap – Sunday, June 30 at 2pm (Immediately following the BBQ)

Kids grow so fast!  Bring your old bikes to the park to exchange them with other families!

Environment Meeting – Saturday, July 20 at 10am at the Church

We have a wonderful line up of speakers who will be covering a variety of topics:

David Pridham – Kawartha Lakes Conservation – Up-date on the Sturgeon Lake Management Plan

Samantha Burke – Graduate student Trent University – Benthic macro invertebrates as indicators of water quality plus a brief introduction to the Kawartha Lakes Steward Association document ‘The Algae of the Kawartha Lakes’

Chris Appleton – Treasurer of Kawartha Lakes Steward Association and Resident of Sturgeon Point – Outline of the Objectives and Activities of the Kawartha Lakes Steward Association

Lucas Tyokodi – Invading Species Awareness Program – Discussion of local invasive species and how to deal with them.

Second, Civic Holiday Regatta 175th Anniversary Swag:

To help commpennantemorate the anniversary of the regatta this summer we will be selling t-shirts and pennants so we can all wear our community pride on our sleeves!

A table will be set up at the Canada Day BBQ for pennant purchases and t-shirt orders.

Pennants are $8 each.

T-shirts are $10 each and mtshirtust be pre-ordered and paid for at the time of ordering.  Samples are available for ordering purposes.  They will be available for pick-up/delivery by Civic weekend.

If you are not going to be at the BBQ on June 30th to order in person, please contact me directly by email or phone.  Order deadline is Thursday, July 18th[email protected] / 705-887-3415

Third, Church floral donations:

The Church would like everyone to know that they welcome donations of fresh floral arrangements for any church service.  It will be acknowledged at the Sunday service who has donated them and in who’s memory they are presented.

And finally, volunteers needed:

We are still looking for volunteers to help out with events and projects throughout the season.  Please send an email to [email protected] to let us know if you are interested in volunteering. This would be a great way for students to get community hours so let your kids know they can get involved too!

See you around the village!
