By-Election Update

There are currently three candidates in the running for the Ward 7 by-election. They are Audrey Holden,  Brian Junkin, and Gail Thomassen. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 10, so we’ll let you know if anyone else throws their hat in the ring.

Several members of the SPA board met with Brian and Gail to impress upon them the specific concerns of Sturgeon Point. Audry Holden will be coming to visit this coming week for a similar meeting.

We’ve set up a By-Election page with links to the candidates’ information. We’ll keep this page updated with links to election-related news articles throughout the campaign.  You’ll also find a listing of important election dates.

Important: If you haven’t received a ballot in the mail by January 12 you need to contact the City By-Election Office.

Local Tennis Camp No More – Daniel Moves On

After a successful run teaching local youngsters and adults the fine game of tennis over the past several summers, the ever-enterprising young Daniel Austin-Appleton has decided to close his summer tennis camp and will be moving onto other endeavours next summer. We’d like to thank Daniel for having provided this opportunity to the community and wish him the all the best with his future projects.

Sturgeon Point in the News

Recent activities in our small corner of the world have attracted some interest from the media. The Park in the Woods project was mentioned in both The Lindsay Post and The Promoter.

The park project is certainly deserving of attention, but Sturgeon Point isn’t just about the park. Kawartha Life thought that the SLSC’s ongoing program deserved some attention in their big summer issue, and we’ve captured that article for you too. You can read any of these articles (in pdf format) by clicking on the appropriate link below:

  1. Park in the Woods, The Lindsay Post, July 10, 2009
  2. Park in the Woods, The Promoter, August 7, 2009
  3. SLSC, Kawartha Life, Summer 2009

If you see any mention of Sturgeon Point in the news, please let us know. We’ll archive the articles and preserve them for all to enjoy over the years to come.  And if you have clippings of past articles about our community, we’d much appreciate your sharing them with us so that we can build up an archival history of our community on our web site.
