Al Horsman, CAO for the City of Kawartha Lakes to speak at the AGM

Al Horsman, the City of Kawartha Lakes new Chief Adminstrative Officer (CAO), has graciously accepted our invitation and agreed to speak at SPA’s upcoming AGM. There will be a short question and answer period following the presentation and an opportunity to talk with Al after the meeting. The AGM will be held on September 4th at the Union Church. The meeting gets underway at 10:00 a.m.

As the CAO, Al deals with the day-to-day operations of the City and reports to Council, providing them with the information they need to make decisions. Al has stepped into a key role at an important time in the evolution of the City. This will be an excellent opportunity for Sturgeon Pointers to meet the new CAO and for Al
to get to know a little more about Sturgeon Point. Everyone is welcome to attend. Hope to see you there!

Blue-Green Algae Warning Rescinded

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit rescinded the precautionary warning previously issued for the eastern leg of Sturgeon Lake. The Public Beach is no longer posted. The water certainly appears to be clearer than it was two weeks ago.

The warning was issued back on August 5th, and so had been in place for one day short of three weeks. Now we have to hope for a return to warm weather before these last days of summer fade into history.

Blue-Green Algae Bloom Update (August 16, 2011)

Toxicology results have confirmed low levels of microcystin-LR in the eastern leg of Sturgeon Lake. The good news is that the toxin levels were very low – in fact, they were lower than the acceptable level for this toxin in drinking water. (Note: This doesn’t mean that the lake water is safe to drink!)
