Sturgeon Point Association AGM

This Sunday, (September 1st) is the Sturgeon Point Association’s Annual General Meeting – 10:00am @ the Church.

We encourage all community members to attend and participate.

At this year’s meeting we will be discussing many important topics such as the leaf dump, the Upper Wharf, and the future direction of the Sturgeon Point Association.

There will also be community reports by the trustees and about the water system.

Our Councillor Brian Junkin will be there to talk to us about the City of Kawartha Lakes and to answer any of your questions – maybe about our roads?!

We are also hoping to have Mark Fisher, the Chief Administrative Officer of the City of Kawartha Lakes to talk to us about the direction the City is taking.

We hope all can come up to this important meeting to get informed on what is going on in our community and our city.  The Sturgeon Point Association believes this is a great chance to hear the communities views and opinions.

After the meeting, there will be refreshments served.

Also, anyone who hasn’t picked up their 175th Anniversary T-shirt or pennant, can do so at the meeting.

AGM & Upper Wharf Celebration

SPA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – SUNDAY SEPT 2, 10:00 A.M., UNION CHURCH

The AGM is where SPA presents its finances and reports on its activities. Several new Directors will be nominated to replace those stepping down. There are also several reports from related community organisations such as the Lake Water Irrigation System and the from the Land Trustees. As a community meeting it remains the best opportunity for Sturgeon Pointers to meet and bring forward any issues, make suggestions, or to voice concerns.

Councillor Brian Junkin will be on hand to say hello, an once again we’ll have a special guest speaker from the City of Kawartha Lakes. Lance Sherk, Director, Economic Development will be addressing the AGM on issues ranging from local development strategies to the heritage and the role it plays in the City’s plans.

Everyone is welcome. Please drop by!

UPPER WHARF PROJECT CELEBRATION – SUNDAY SEPT. 2, 12:00 P.M. (AFTER THE AGM) UPPER WHARF

Over the past year we have carried out some significant improvements to the grounds at the Upper Wharf. A natural stone stairway has been installed to improve access and eliminate a chronic erosion problem. A native wild flower garden has been created and new signage installed. A committee of interested volunteers approved the design decisions and the gardens were installed by a dedicated crew of local gardeners. Once a seldom used property, the Upper Wharf grounds have now become one of the more popular community properties on the Point.

Come one, come all.  If you can’t make it to the AGM, please try to stop by the Upper Wharf to celebrate this newly improved area.

CoKL’s CAO follows up after the SPA AGM Presentation

After his informative presentation at SPA’s AGM on September 4th, Al Horsman engaged our members in a lively question and answer period. A number of issues were brought up by our members, and although Al did a good job of addressing all of the questions at the AGM, he recently followed up with a letter and some supporting documentation to help address some of our concerns in more depth. Al’s letter and those documents have been posted on a dedicated page and can be access by clicking on the following link:

CAO Al Horsman’s AGM Follow Up

Its encouraging to see that our new CAO is so responsive to our community’s concerns – and we hope this good relationship extends well into the future.
